Fred Alexander: the Man, the Arts, the Festival
Written and Directed by Stuart Halusz.
Frederick Alexander had a huge impact on the arts in Western Australia and his story is one which celebrates legacy and the importance of the Arts, language and ideas in society. Now the longest running Arts Festival in the Southern Hemisphere, the Perth Festival, which he founded in 1953, continues to be a leader on the world stage.
This workshop showing of a new work commissioned by Fred’s Grandson Andrew Blanckensee, will sow the seed for a site-specific, immersive, promenade-style production which takes in multiple levels of the State Library and various spaces within.
Featuring a central stage area, the cast and musicians will take our audience sweeping and swirling through the aisles of books on a journey in a mini-festival experience. Celebrating all the artforms in an explosion of colour, light, projection and song, our audience will be immersed in the pages of Fred Alexander’s life story celebrating his cultural legacy for all West Australians.
